Volunteer Services

The RGHA Volunteer Services Committee assists the Director of Volunteer Services and the Volunteer Coordinator at RGH to further the volunteer program, strengthen existing services, and develop new services for over 500 volunteers.

The Committee sponsors and helps arrange the Annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon and provided funds for new volunteer uniforms. Recently, Volunteer Services has launched several new programs to support the emotional and personal needs of patients and their families, including a Canine Visitation Program, a Compassionate Care Program (vigil presence for patients without continuous company), and Tuesday Tea Time (tea, coffee, and refreshments for patients and their visitors).

Social Work Services

This Committee acts in an advisory capacity to the Director of Social Work Services at RGH and considers the particular social and psychological needs of patients. RGHA supports the Social Work Services budget for transportation, clothing and other needs of RGH patients that cannot be secured in other ways. It also collects and distributes funds or the RGHA annual holiday project. In past years members of the RGHA Board and several Twigs have given over $1,500 to help families at Bethany House, residents at Hill Haven Nursing Home, and families served by House of Mercy with holiday dinners, food cards, and holiday gifts. The committee also helps organize, fund, and host the annual Ella Hollister Award Ceremony in honor of the first social worker employed by RGH’s predecessor, Rochester City Hospital.

Teaching Fellowship

The Teaching Fellowship Committee sponsors outstanding specialists in medicine and health from throughout the country in order to enhance the education and patient care programs at the Hospital and the community at large.

Upon the recommendation of Rochester General Hospital staff physicians, these distinguished teaching fellows are invited to give lectures and visit departments at RGH in their areas of expertise.

In past years, RGHA has sponsored four to six teaching fellows each year in the departments of Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Dentistry. For a complete list of the specialists that have been sponsored through the Teaching Fellowship Program, please refer to the Teaching Fellowship brochure.

Nursing Education

The Nursing Education and Practice Committee of RGHA considers issues pertinent to nursing at Rochester General Hospital and serves in an advisory capacity to the administrator of nursing and to the director of the Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing (IGHSPN).

Through the Committee, RGHA funds educational scholarships for IGHSPN students and practicing nurses at RGH. It also funds and helps plan the IGHSPN Nursing Graduation Ceremony held in June each year. In recent years, RGHA has provided nursing scholarships totaling over $10,000 a year.
